Joseph Gabriel

Picture
Joseph Gabriel is a visual artist from the Philippines. He investigates notions of land, origin, memory and sense of place. Now working from London, he was awarded the Royal College of Art (RCA) Prize in Ceramics in 2019.

Here Gabriel works with glazed porcelain and terra cotta. Working with clay as a substrate for markings and immediate gestural traces, he takes reference from dereliction and fragmented pieces, trying to find a coherent whole.

In the past, Gabriel was awarded an RCA Fund International Scholarship to study MA Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art in London. He also studied ceramics as an exchange scholar at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
